Winter also completed portraits of many dignitaries including four Popes, Cardinal Terence Cooke, Arthur Rubenstein, Amelia Earhart, George Meany and others. On several occasions he was guest of the White House and the Vatican.

Winter exhibited at the National Academy of Design, New York City; the American Watercolor Society’s Annual Exhibitions and Travel Show; the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, New York City; the Salmagundi Club, New York City; and the New Rochelle Art Association, New York. He was recipient of the Henry Ward Ranger Purchase Fund Award from the National Academy of Design and the William A. White award from the Salmagundi Club. He was a member of the American Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Club and the National Society of Mural Painters. Winter was president of the New Rochelle Art Association in 1952-54, and vice president of both the National Society of Mural Painters and the Architectural League of New York.

Lumen Martin Winter died on April 5, 1982 in New Rochelle, New York.
