"I first heard of the artist Lumen Winter when I joined the Salmagundi Club (one of the oldest art club's in the country) in 1982, the year of his death. The Club members would constantly talk in awe-struck tones about Winter's work, his murals, about the Apollo XIII Astronauts insignia and their coming to the Salmagundi Club, his sculpture and his fine water colors exhibited with the American Watercolor Society.
