OVER THE RIVER: Transforming Long Island

Exhibition Hofstra University Museum, Emily Lowe Gallery

September 6 to December 16, 2016

 

This original exhibition features works in the Hofstra University Museum Collections by artists Lumen Martin Winter,  Marilyn Bridges, Louis Lozowick, and Andy Warhol, as well as works on loan from private collectors, other museums and artists. The focus

of the exhibition is the transformation of Long Island over the decades, brought about by the construction of bridges, tunnels and 

roadways that provide direct routes to New York City. Issues addressed include the planning and development of surbia, the long-term impacts on the environment, and contemporary challenges. In addition to works of art, the exhibition includes planning

documents and archival photographs on loan from the Special Collections department of the Hofstra University Libraries.

 

Funding support has been provided by Astoria bank, the National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University, 

and the New York State Council on the Arts.
